GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The 2024 NFL draft begins tomorrow night, and most experts from across the country have seemingly agreed on who the Green Bay Packers should select at 25 if available.
According to NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks and Eric Edholm, the Packers should draft Iowa safety/cornerback Cooper DeJean in the first round, saying, “After bringing in a new defensive coordinator (Jeff Hafley) and high-priced safety (Xavier McKinney), Green Bay adds another big defensive piece in DeJean, who supplies athleticism and versatility to the rotation. The Iowa standout is a Swiss Army knife with the instincts and ball skills to thrive in a ‘ see ball, get ball’ system.”
DeJean was also projected to Green Bay by NFL Network’s Charles Davis and ESPN’s Matt Miller, who said, “It’s a legitimate toss-up between cornerback and offensive lineman for the Packers, but with the run-on tackles hitting in the early 20s here, I think they’d go get the most versatile defensive back in the class. DeJean suffered a broken leg that ended his 2023 season, but his pro-day workout answered any questions about his NFL readiness. He can play inside the corner, outside the corner, or in safety. The Packers would love his ball skills (seven career picks) in Jeff Hafley’s defense.”
Other final mock drafts who think DeJean will be gone by pick 25 include The Ringer’s Danny Kelly and Jordan Reid of ESPN, who believe the Packers will select Duke guard/center Graham Barton, saying, “The Packers bolster the offensive line here, grabbing a blocking technician who brings the capability to fill in at multiple spots. Barton offers five-position versatility, with the frame and skill set to play either tackle spot, guard, or even center. The team continues to build a support system around quarterback Jordan Love.”
The 2024 NFL Draft begins at 7 p.m. CST on ESPN and NFL Network, and stay with WSAU throughout the night for updates on the Packers night and a full analysis of who they select at 25th overall.
