WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A pair of school threats were deemed not credible on Thursday.
According to the Wausau School District, numerous parents expressed concerns about an unspecified threat at Horace Mann Middle School. Communications Coordinator Diana White said the information was “immediately investigated, with the help of the Wausau Police Department, and it was determined that there were no threats and student safety was never in jeopardy.”
Leaders did postpone a previously scheduled school evacuation drill to prevent further anxiety among students and staff.
School leaders add that the situation is a good reminder for parents to talk with their kids about the importance of speaking up if they hear or read a threatening statement.
Officials in the Merrill School District also found themselves dealing with a threatening social media post on Thursday. That incident was also not credible and no lockdown was initiated.
