MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — The Tampa Bay Rays pulled off a 1-0 win on Monday night at American Family Field.
Ryan Pepiot and three relievers shut down the high powered Brewer offense but for the second day in a row, an umpire’s call affected the outcome.
The Brewers had runners on second and third with one out in the 9th when a potential third strike to Jake Bauers got past the Rays catcher allowing Sal Frelick to score the tying run. But umpire Ryan Addition ruled that Bauers had hit catcher Rene Pinto with his backswing, calling Bauers out and returning Frelick to third base.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy was ejected after arguing the call.
Milwaukee had dropped three straight and have fallen into second place behind the Cubs in the Central Division standings. They will play the Rays again tonight…pre-game show at 6:05 on WSAU.
