GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – It was a big week for the Green Bay Packers 2024 draft class, hoping to make a great first impression and land a starting job come September.
When speaking to the media after practice on Friday, first-round pick Jordan Morgan said he wants to show coaches that he can take over the left tackle position for years to come, saying, “I was out there today at left tackle. I’m trying to show that I’m a true left tackle and show I’ll be out there on the edge to protect the quarterback,” and continued by saying, “I get that a lot—the short arms stuff. It’s like you obviously haven’t watched the film. I use them pretty well. I move people off the ball. I pass set really well and protect the quarterback. You see the statistics. That doesn’t bother me, though. I’m just going to prove everybody wrong.”

Morgan spent nearly all of his 2,400 career snaps at Arizona, and after recovering from a torn ACL in 2023, he allowed only two sacks and 14 pressures, which earned him first-team All-PAC honors.
Head coach Matt LaFleur also weighed in on the team’s new linebacker duo in Ty’Ron Hopper and Edgerrin Cooper on Friday and the impression they made this past week, saying, “I thought they really stood out in my opinion. It was a great Day 1, but there’s a long way to go, and they’ve got a lot to learn,” and Cooper weighed in on how he felt he could fit in with the Packers new system, saying, “That’s one thing I take pride in myself, being versatile. I feel like I can be at any spot. Outside, that’s my go-to. But if I move inside, I’m sure I can handle that, too.”

As for the Packers backup quarterback battle, Michael Pratt said he’s only focusing on what he can control, saying he’s “just controlling what I can control. Just controlling my attitude and my effort. Getting better every day while also elevating all the people around me. You know whatever my role is here, fulfilling it to the best of my ability and just taking it day by day,” and spoke about his long-time friendship with teammate Sean Clifford, saying, “I believe it actually started at the Manning Passing Academy a couple of years ago. And then we’ve got like a group chat, just other quarterbacks and other people that Sean and I have stayed in touch.”
The rookies will get their first opportunity to hit the field with Jordan Love and company on Monday, May 20th, and Tuesday, May 21st, when the team continues their OTA program.
